PENNSYLVANIA, 1894 - Laboring through frozen wagon ruts and deep puddles, the buggy creaks up to the small wooden schoolhouse. Stepping carefully through fresh snow the dedicated schoolmaster pats his horse and disappears inside.
Soon, wisps of smoke drift from the chimney. Warm light from the oil lamps spills out the windows and onto the ground.
The only sound comes from the teacher's hand at the chalkboard. The proverb of the day is one of his favorites... preserved from a treasured old copy of Poor Richard's Almanac by Ben Franklin: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. The schoolmaster steps back and looks at the words he has written. He has lived by these words, and they are true. His wealth is in the lives he has touched.
