This is my favorite garden. It was, of course, Monet's garden where he last lived. It is truly an artist's garden; it is not a formal garden in any sense. It is full of flowers seemingly indiscriminately placed until you become more involved with it. The garden is artistically situated with plantings that provide many interesting compositions.
It was a challenge to paint this scene, to get the right sense of reflections. Monet used this pond - where, in fact his famous water lilies were painted - as his workshop; he painted it many times, and I can see why. -Peter Ellenshaw
