"If I had to choose only one thing to paint, it would be water. I enjoy attempting to portray its many moods. Water as a stream, a lake, or as the ocean, or maybe just puddles. Water in a landscape adds its own special magic. It makes the scene come alive."

To me, autumn. when some of the leaves have fallen and others still cling tenaciously to the trees, is quite often the best time of year. I saw this glorious place many years ago. I was intrigued because so many leaves had fallen into the stream, yet it was impossible to trap the water, and ii surged on, carrying its golden treasure away in its downstream rush, like nuggets from a miner's pan.

Seeing this and then painting it so many years later made me reflect on what is true gold, rather than the elusive kind that so many chase and never attain.-Peter Ellenshaw
