This painting takes place around the turn of the century. A
new citizen is about to be born - the first of this family to be
born in the new country.
I wanted the expression on the girl's face to show excitement
and anticipation as she feels the baby move. When a new
baby is born, it's a wonderful thing, but for an immigrant
family, it must have been especially wonderful. -Jim Daly
