The Rocky Mountains are the great, jagged-edged backbone of the North American continent. Their rugged grandeur is pronounced nowhere quite so dramatically as along the borderlands of northwestern Montana and Canada. Here was home for the Blackfoot, and they knew these mountains, the hidden passes and secret paths that the mountain goat followed, far above the timberline. Up in the company of clouds, two warriors pause to rest ponies that are winded and weary. They are at ease in this place that seems at the edge of the world. Creation stretches out endlessly for farther than the eye can see.
