You can''t get a cat to pose, of course, but I've seen my own cats leap into baskets, shoe boxes...every- thing. I've even seen one settle down for a nap inside a grocery bag while there was still food in it! Each of the cats in A Bushel and a Peck has its own reaction to the bird, but I'd say most have the feel- ing, "Yeah, we've been here before. No point in making an exertion over this." As for the parakeet having his beauty wash, he's oblivious to the drama he's creating. Until cats sprout wings, there's really no reason for him to behave otherwise.
